“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the lord.” [Joshua 24:15]
“And ye shall serve the lord your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee.” [Exodus 23:25]
“Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the lord Christ.” [Colossians 3:24]
“God put you here to be sons and daughters of God, and if you fail to get that, you fail to receive the very purpose God put you on earth to be." That's right. No, matter how honest, how decent, how moral you might be, how good you might be, what a fine sociable fellow you might be; you still miss the calling unless you serve the lord Jesus and become a son and daughter of God. No, matter how good a neighbor you might be, how good a anything you may be, that's all good and we appreciate that. But my brother, until you become a son of God, you fail to answer the purpose that God put you on the earth to be. That's right.” [The Handwriting On The Wall, Jeffersonville IN, 56-0902]
“Now, Daniel said, "I'm going to purpose in my heart. No matter how much pressure they put on me, how much they laugh and say I'm a holy-roller, that won't bother me a bit. That won't phase me one bit. I'm going to stay true to God no matter what comes through bad." That's the way. Then you're going to get somewhere when you start with that attitude. Remember, it's the motive that you have towards anything that determines what you're going to get out of it. It's your motives. If your motives is right, you'll be all right. But always make your motives right. Serve the lord for one purpose, because you love Him, not because you're afraid of hell, not because you're afraid of dying, but because you love Him, Who loved you when you were unlovable. That's it. "Dear dying Lamb, Thy precious Blood shall never lose its power till all the ransomed Church of God be saved to sin no more." That's right. "Ever since by faith I saw that stream, Thy flowing wounds supply, redeeming love has been my theme, and shall be till I die." What a marvelous quotation of the poet. And that's right. Take all of everything else, but give me love.” [The Handwriting On The Wall, Jeffersonville IN, 56-0902]
“And that's what the Christian does. When you're planted in Christ Jesus, everything that you have need of in earth's journey is in you when you receive the Holy Spirit. And the only thing you have to do is drink, drink, and push out, push out. Just drink till you can't drink no more. If you have need of Divine healing, go to God's Word and drink from It, until you push out. If you need more of God, just keep drinking, pushing out. And Christ is the inexhaustible Fountain of Life. And if you're planted in Him, the only thing you have to do, is drink of His goodness and push out whatever you have need of in this earth's journey. It's all drinking, resting, peace. It's not what you struggle and strive and pull at, you--you defeat the very purpose that you're representing when you do that.” [The Inter Veil, Sturgis MI, 56-0121]
“Stand alone. Walk out there and say, "Though He slay me, yet I'll trust Him." That's the seed of Abraham. That's the One that gives the promise. No matter what the rest of them says, and the rest of them do; "For me and my house, we'll serve God," If the rest of them says there's nothing to the experience, it's a bunch of excitement; "For me and my house, we will serve God." And I like to take up with Paul right here and say, "In the way that's called heresy so worship I the God of our fathers." Though they be tattlers come in the church, though they be twisters, and though they be all kinds of false prophets, and everything come into the church amongst the people, and in the neighborhood and everything, but for me and for my house, we'll serve the lord. Though all of them quit coming, though the church gets cold, indifferent; me and my house, we'll serve the lord. Though if someone was prayed for and didn't get well, that had nothing to do with it; for me and my house, we serve the lord.” [Possessing The Enemy's Gates, Jeffersonville IN, 59-1108]
“So when a person says they have the Holy Ghost, and accept something contrary to the Word, it shows that ain't the genuine Holy Ghost they got. See? It may be a ghost, I wouldn't dispute that, but it--it isn't the Holy Ghost of Christ. Now, you know, many times, they take one another's spirits; and so that might point, in like a group of man, to a certain thing, but it won't--it won't point to Christ. But the Holy Spirit always points to Christ, and Christ is the Word. We see this so plainly in the Bible. Maybe I might be wrong, but, in my thinking, but I don't think so; because, that, this: "Lean not to your own understanding of things." If you lean to your own understanding, then you're bound to get off of the right road. You can't lean to anyone else's understanding, when it comes to Life. To find Life, you've got to lean to the Word. That's Life.” [Lean Not Unto Thy Own Understanding, Phoenix AZ, 65-0120]
“I believe that Christian life is a continual sacrifice. "He that will come after me, let him deny himself daily (every day, not forty-six days, but every day), take up his cross and follow Me," said Jesus. Christian life is one continually Lenten. Oh, how the Christian loves to do it. He doesn't do it with a grudge; he does it with a feeling that he loves God; and he's glad he can do it. It's a joy to serve the lord Jesus. It's a joy to sacrifice. It's a joy to worship the Lord. It's a joy to be called a fanatic for the Kingdom of God's sake. It's a joy to take a stand for the right, and move from the wrong. Joy to praise Him. It's a joy to abstain from the things of the world. It's in their heart. It's a perfect Lent. Lenten all the time. God's Spirit comes into you and changes your desire.” [All The Days Of Our Life, Chicago IL, 59-0612]
“And then, there, you take a Christian, that's supposed to be a Christian, let the Life of God go from him, and the experience, the joy of serving Christ; and, living in a church where such is going on, he rottens twice as quick, right, living right under. So, if we are trying to follow the Message of the hour, or at least this part of the Message, we should live constantly in the Life of Christ. See? Cause, if it don't, you lay around, and know That, these things that you're supposed to do, and don't do it. The Bible said, "He that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it's sin." Then you become doty, rotten, when you're separated from the Life of God. So, strive with all that's in you, to stay in the Life of Christ, that you be fruit-bearing.” [How Can I Overcome, Jeffersonville IN, 63-0825M]
“God's painting a picture. And a man, when he comes up, he comes to a certain age, then after while, he ceases. God gets a picture just where He wants it and said, "There it is." All right. In the resurrection that's just exactly what we're going to be in the resurrection, just when we're at our best. So we don't have nothing to worry about. Just serve the lord Jesus, be borned again, and He promised we'd--we'd be there, and we'll be there. Don't worry.” [The Results Of Decision, Chicago IL, 55-1008]
