"And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him." [Acts 5:32]
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us." [Hebrews 12:1]

I pray that my testimony will be a blessing to all those who read it. It proves that God can take a sinner and change their life.

As a little girl I always wanted to go to church, my parents weren’t Christians so I would walk to a church near our home and go by myself. When I was about nine years old I went up front and shook hands in the Baptist church and was baptized but there was no power to keep me so I soon went back to my old ways. At 13 years of age, I did the same thing at the Church of Christ.

I was sixteen when I got married and by eighteen I had two children. My son James was 5 months old in the summer of 1947 when I started having heart problems. I was taken to the hospital and diagnosed as having rheumatic fever. I was in the hospital for a week and while I was there they discovered that I was expecting again. The doctor wanted me to have an abortion as he said it was too dangerous for me to carry and deliver this child. I refused and went home and my sister came stay with me, as I could do nothing at all. I was allowed to sit in a chair for three hours in the morning and another three hours in the afternoon and had to stay in bed for the rest of the time. I didn’t have any trouble and on March 3, 1948, I had Kerry, a healthy baby boy.

In April of that year, my sister was invited to a revival at the local Assembly of God church by a neighbor. My sister was then saved and baptized. It was a glorious revival and many were saved. She kept asking me to go, but I kept refusing. After the revival meetings were over I decided to go one time so she would stop pestering me. I went to a Sunday night service, and the church was packed. My sister sang in the choir and when they got through singing they had to stay in the choir loft, as there was no room for them to sit. The pastor was preaching that night and I was so under conviction that I wished he would stop preaching so I could go to the altar. When the time came, I gave my baby to the people next to me (who I didn’t know at all) and practically ran to the altar. The next day my sister, the neighbor, and I were sitting around the kitchen table praising the Lord when all of a sudden a new language came from my lips, I didn’t know anything about the Holy Ghost but the neighbor said I had received it. Their teaching was unknown tongues is the evidence of the Holy Ghost, but we now know that’s not the evidence. The next Sunday afternoon they were going to baptize all those who were saved during the meeting. The river was not far from our house so I walked down, not intending to be baptized. I didn’t even take a change of clothes. But after they had baptized all the new converts I walked into the river and was baptized and I walked home dripping wet.

A short time after that, I was in church when I started having trouble breathing and having troubles with my heart. I didn’t want to interrupt the sermon, so I got up and walked outside. My sister saw me leave and came out also, when she what was happening she went out and brought out the pastors wife and they took me next door to the parsonage, anointed me oil, and prayed for me and I never had any more problems.

I soon found out that I was expecting again and couldn’t go to church much since church was a 3-mile walk from home. Soon afterward we moved to a house that was too far away to walk to church so I wasn’t going at all. Soon I got so cold and I backslid. On Sundays, at that time, the only radio programs you could get were preaching and gospel and my husband even though he was a sinner, loved gospel music. I would be so under conviction that I would have to go outside, and if the weather was bad, I would go sit in the outhouse so I wouldn’t have to listen to the radio.

In May 1951, we boarded a train for California with only our 4 children, our clothes, and very little money. Everything was going good, my husband got a good job, and we soon moved to our own place. In the early part of 1952, I met a lady and she told me she went to the Assembly of God church. I made a mistake of telling her I used to go to that church. Needless to say, she kept asking me to go to church with her but I kept refusing but I did send the children to Sunday School with her. In November 1952, she told me about the evangelist Oral Roberts and said that he was bringing his big tent to a town near us…and asked me if I wanted to go. She told me she was going in the prayer line to be healed so I decided to go. The first night I was under such conviction till I folded my arms across my chest real tight so I wouldn’t raise my hand during the altar call. The next night I went again and did the same thing. Then God spoke to me and said “If you don’t accept me this night, you’ll never get another chance” so I got up and ran to the altar. I was saved that night and was only 24 years old at the time.

I started going to Assemblies but after awhile was not completely satisfied so over the years went to different churches some independent and some Pentecostal denominational. I seemed to be always searching for something. My husband was saved in 1961. It wasn’t easy serving the Lord alone all those years and taking all six children to church.

In January 1965, my friends told me they were going to Phoenix to the Full Gospel Men’s Convention and told me Oral Roberts would be one of the speakers. She also mentioned that a Bro. Branham would be there, but I had never heard of him, so I went with her to hear Bro. Roberts. When Bro. Branham came out to preach, he said “Good Evening Friends” and I knew right away that there was something special about him. He started calling out people and telling them who they were, where they were from and what their problem was. I had never witnessed anything like that before. When we heard that he was to be at the Biltmore Hotel in Los Angeles in April of 1965, we decided to go. He preached “Choosing of a Bride” and what a sermon that was. We finally went back to the Assemblies and was living in the parsonage next to the church. I was getting more and more discouraged with the church. I was praying for the Lord to make a way for us to move. I knew the Lord had to convince my husband to move if it was going to come to pass.
In November 1972, Clyde had a few days off so he said he would fly over to Tucson and if the Lord provided him with a job, we would move. I prayed the whole time he was gone. But when he came back and I asked if he had found one, he said “Not exactly, and my heart fell. But then he said, “Bro. Billy Collins offered me a rent free apartment with utilities paid if we would manage his 32 unit apartment complex” and to my surprise he accepted the offer.
This testimony is only being given to magnify our Lord. He gets all the glory. God Bless all of you.
